This new series shares a heritage to many previous Jeff Genzler designs.  These light-weight cabinet designs constructed from 12mm and 15mm Baltic Birch plywood deliver powerful, full-body response with a modern, yet classic styling.  The cabinets are wrapped in a heavy-duty black textured vinyl with a complimentary woven wire, silver and black grille cloth and silver metallic piping.  The distinctive front triangular ports provide an optimum porting design as well as structural strength in the corners of the cabinet.  All of this sets the Magellan series apart from standard black boxes and defines that this is the pinnacle of professional bass amplification equipment.

The MG-212T is a vertically stacked design yet still compact for a powerful 2 x 12” and tweeter combination.  The close configuration of the dual 12” drivers provides “tight-fisted” powerful projection of the low and mid frequencies.  The depth and roundness of the low end blends seamlessly with the midrange clarity of these premium loudspeakers.  With our proprietary compression tweeter the top end could be described as much more “polite” (smoother) than your average configuration of this type.   Overall, this cabinet is a “compact tower” of depth, clarity and authority.

I bought this cab to replace a massive 4×12 bass cab I had, and this cab left my jaw on the floor. The amount of low-end and punch this cab has, left me dumbfounded. Its extremely easy to haul around, and fits in the seat of a car. I could easily play a huge venue with just this cab.

It has more bass than I know what to do with, but is not muddy. It’s very articulate and punchy. Each note has a distinct feel to hit to go along with a great tone for the ear. This is the best cab I’ve owned, and I dont plan on going to anything else for a very very long time, if ever. The tweeter is not harsh at all, even with distortion. I usually hate tweeters, but this one does a fantastic job. I couldnt be more happy with my purchase.

This is a first and only bass cab I’ve ever owned. No need for any others really. I play a mix of rock, funk, blues, jazz, and soul with 50 and 100 watt tube heads. With the 50 watt guitar head and Fender P Bass, I crank it up to get a sound much like a cross between Jack Bruce and John Entwistle. The Genzler doesn’t even blink an eye and sounds so incredibly glorious with all of that tube overdrive! The 2×12 pumps out loads of bottom end and the highs never get harsh.

Using a 100 watt Reeves/Hiwatt head and Rickenbacker 4003, again the Genzler puts out such a wonderful tone. It pulls all of the bottom end out of the head that I need and delivers the true voice of the Reeves/Hiwatt. In fact, this Ric, Reeves, Genzler 2x12T sounds so incredible together that I bought the cab and Ric on the spot. Customers all over the store commented on what an incredible tone it is.

I don’t use the tweeter, but I have experimented with it, and it never gets harsh. I like to keep mine set up old school with no tweeter though. you can hear this incredible cabinet on recordings from my old band Funky Tonk here: https://funkytonk1.bandcamp.com

I’ve posted videos and other recordings on our old FB page too.

I confess: I used to be a big rig guy. For over 20 years I’ve been using rack-mounted pre- and power-amps and the obligatory 2 410 cabs. Sure, the sound was big but required a big car, big muscles and a fair bit of room. And it sounded good only in a few select spots on the stage.

All that changed when I had the opportunity to try the BA12-3 and the 212T. The 212T sounded great but the BA12-3 had something special going on. I decided to get 2 BA12-3 (#33 and 34 so an early adopter!) which gives me the option of using one (generally rehearsals) or both for all gigs. The Magellan 800 joined as soon as it became available and I haven’t looked back.

Playing my own basses (5 and 6 string, fretted and fretless) I can’t remember a single occasion where I had any issues dialling in an outstanding sound. “Dialling in”” means tweaking the EQ just a tiny little bit and play around with the two contour settings since the amp combined with the two BA12-3 cabs is already incredibly analytical and precise while being extremely musical at the same time. Very occasionally I use the drive channel as well.

The amp is built like a tank with a great weight that’s not too light (and feels flimsy) but just right. All pots are super-smooth and super-responsive – even the slightest bit of turn makes a difference. It’s also really nice in terms of haptic experience, just the right amount of “brush treatment”.

And as regular as clockwork I get comments on how good the sound is (no-one comments on my playing 🙂 ) whether I carry the bottom end in venues up to 150-200 people or use the amazing DI to go through the PA. From rock-solid B string to double-stops and chords higher up, everything is crystal-clear and balanced with just the right amount of heft. And I’ve never been short of enough volume although with this rig it’s not really a question of how loud but more a case of just right – it fills the room without impacting on the other instruments or the singers.

I really can’t see myself NOT using this rig until the end of my playing days (which hopefully is still a fair way away). The only thing I would consider is either swapping one of the BA12-3 cabs for a slanted one, or maybe add one. That’s it. Big thank you to everyone at Genzler for providing this amazing set and forget gear!”
